The species has a number of common names, including Chinese Scholar and Japanse Pagoda tree. It is also known by the scientific name
Styphnolobium japonicum. In traditional Chinese medicine the tree
has many uses and the species is rich in folklore. A member of the pea family, it gets pretty white flowers late in the summer.
