Cucumber magnolia differs from other magnolias in that its
flowers are greenish and not particularly attractive. Its common name comes from its
fruits which are greenish as they develop. Unlike the more well-known southern magnolia, cucumber magnolia looses its
leaves in the fall.
Cucumber magnolia is rare in the wild in middle Tennessee, but in east Tennessee it is common and is an important timber tree.
